Supporting the UT Administration of lakshadweep to renew the organic status

KVK supported the UT administration of Lakshadweep to declare the organic status of the island. The large defaulted traditional areas were resurveyed, soil testing was carried out along with peer inspection and peer appraisal to verify the authenticity of organic farmers. The KVK took an active part in coordinating the activity and was funded by the PKVY project. All the registered farmers of Lakshadweep under the Large Area Certification on PGS portal are adopting organic farming practices including biological methods for plant protection. Based on this, 7591 active farmers across the 10 islands of Lakshadweep were provided with the organic status. Dr. P. N. Ananth, Head, KVK and Dr. Abdul Gafoor, V. M. coordinated this activity along with Mrs.Marjan, P.S from the Department of Agriculture.
