IMD-DAMU Project KVK Lakshadweep Enhances Agromet Services Under IMD-DAMU Project

Under the IMD-DAMU (District Agro-Met Unit) project, KVK Lakshadweep established an Automatic Weather Station (AWS) with support from the India Meteorological Department. The AWS enables real-time tracking of temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, and direction, significantly enhancing localized weather forecasting. Using these data, KVK provides tailored agromet advisories and sends SMS alerts on rainfall, wind, and sea conditions to farmers. These timely forecasts support informed decisions on irrigation, fertilization, harvesting, and fishing, thereby reducing climate-related risks, improving productivity, and safeguarding livelihoods in the island’s agriculture and fisheries sectors.
